OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS IN BERLIN: APPLY NOW!

As part of the International Festival, the artist collective Mestizx and the cultural organisation Sources d’Espoir e.V. present the open call TOUR 2024. The motto of this year’s festival is “Decoloniality”. It will also focus on Afrofuturist perspectives that imagine and shape a new, post-colonial future. The aim is to create a space for diverse voices and stories through artistic forms of expression.
The event will take place on 31.08.2024 in Ja! Space Mobiles Stadtteilzentrum (Neumagener Str. 11, 13088 Berlin).
Conditions:
The performances must be designed or adapted so that they can be presented in public spaces. We expect basic sound equipment, but we will not work with lighting or projections.
This year our call has 2 main focuses:
- Multilingualism:
We are looking for artists who want to work with words and perform in their native language. Our focus is on underrepresented languages spoken in our city. The performance can include different formats such as music, spoken word, sign language poetry, slam, short stories, rap or narration but also other disciplines such as dance, theatre, can be included. - Participation of the audience
We are looking for artists who want to involve the audience in their performances. We are interested in thinking about the diverse inhabitants of Berlin and finding formats that get them moving. Surprise us with your proposal!

Compensation will be provided as recommended by LAFT. (Landesverband freie darstellende Künste Berlin e.V. )
Requirements
- The performance must not exceed 30 minutes.
- Both professional artists and enthusiastic amateurs are welcome.
- There is no age limit for participation.
- Performances with discriminatory content will not be accepted.

The deadline for submitting applications for the Open Call is 5.08.2024
Add the following information to your email:
- Full name.
- Telephone number.
- Native language (the language you will perform in).
- Add a 30-second video showing your planned performance. This video will give us an idea of your style and creativity.
- If you have an accompanying text for your performance, attach it as a PDF. If there is no text, please send us a short description.
- If you have relevant links to previous work or performances, please include them in your email.
Selection criteria
The curators of this open call are the collective Mestizx and Sources d’Espoir e.V. The selection is made with the aim of presenting a wide range of languages and formats. Creativity, originality and the connection to the festival theme will be taken into account when selecting the artists.
The selected artists will be contacted for interviews. We cannot guarantee individual responses to all applicants.
About the open call
As part of “TOUR 2024”, the collective MESTIZX aims to promote artistic expression and narratives in urban spaces to showcase the diversity of native languages spoken in our city. An essential aspect of this open call is the prioritisation of languages that have experienced structural discrimination, colonisation and oppression. We encourage all those who have faced this systematic discrimination to apply.
TOUR 2024 is part of the initiative “DRAUSSENSTADT”, funded by the Berlin City Fund for Projects and the Senate Department for Culture and Europe.
